The British Council in Qatar celebrated Qatar National Volunteer’s day with the signing of a partnership agreement with Doha Youth Centre.

The partnership will initially focus on taking forward the Global Changemakers Time Bank initiative. The Time Bank is a project developed by youth participants in a British Council programme which supports a growing network of young activists, involves them in practical experiences and helps them become effective members in their community.

Through Time Bank, Global Changemakers members have encouraged young people to realise the importance of using time effectively and enhanced their awareness of the importance of social and voluntary work. Global Changemaker, Abdullah al-Mulla, said: “We have offered over 30 different workshops and programmes including: Planning Your Career, First Aid, Starting from Scratch, and Emotional Intelligence workshops as well as language bridges and policy making with Vodafone, photography with Arabi Sports Club, and judging debates programme with Qatar Debates and many more programmes.”

Doha Youth Centre is one of the most active youth centres in Qatar. Abdullah Ziyara, general secretary of Doha Youth Centre, commented: “The Global Changemakers youth have attended two regional training / conferences in Egypt last December and in Morocco this week.” The Time Bank programme will soon partner with schools, as well as run summer camps.
