Cathay Pacific Airways, in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, has announced the winner of its English essay writing competition launched on 20 April 2014. Aimed at young students aged between 13 and 17 in Qatar, the competition generated great interest amongst students from schools across Doha.

Submissions for the competition were judged on content, style, originality and relevance to the topic. Amongst the seven shortlisted entries, Miss Iniyaa Magesh, a 13-year old from MES Indian School impressed the panel of judges most with her essay, which vividly described the competition’s theme: “What would you like to see if you go to Hong Kong?”

Cathay Pacific announes winner [].jpgIn her winning essay, Iniyaa proved that “winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”. She brilliantly expressed her dream holiday through a short story narration which covered all the things she wants to do in Hong Kong, including eating local Chinese delicacies, watching the ‘Symphony of Lights’ and experiencing theme parks like Ocean Park. Iniyaa also conveyed her dream to the judges through her beautiful sketch and drawings of Hong Kong.

For her winning entry, Iniyaa won the grand prize of three Cathay Pacific round-trip Premium Economy class tickets to Hong Kong for herself and two travel companions. They will also get passes to visit Hong Kong’s main attractions, including Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, Ngong Ping 360, Noah’s Ark Hong Kong, Ocean Park Hong Kong,Sky 100 Hong Kong Observation Deck and join a Big Bus tour experience.
