In keeping with its corporate citizenship agenda of supporting healthcare in Qatar, Commercialbank held a one day blood donation drive for its employees at the Bank's headquarters at the Commercialbank Plaza. Staff from various branches and departments volunteered in response to the growing demand for blood. Educational brochures and leaflets were distributed to all participating staff, to raise awareness among all Bank employees about donating blood. Staff from the Blood Donation Unit of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC),  ensured that international standards were complied with and that all blood donors were carefully screened to meet strict criteria. The blood donation process is very safe; the health care team at the Blood Bank also monitored donors to ensure their safety.

Abdulla Al Raisi, Dy CEO, was quoted as saying “Supporting the healthcare fraternity in Qatar has always been a part of our corporate social responsibility framework. Donating blood is a noble way to serve humanity, especially for those, who are in critical need of blood and being a part of such noble social causes heightens our sense of social responsibility. We are proud to engage with HMC in such worthy endeavors which reflect our strong community bonding in coming together to help those in need and to promote good health. We encourage our employees to support the community and we are glad to partner with the Hamad Hospital for this initiative.

Hamad Hospital Blood Bank provides blood supply covering the needs of all the governmental and private hospitals in Qatar.  As there is no substitute for human blood, eligible donors are encouraged to give blood twice a year, which would greatly help in maintaining an adequate blood supply for the country. Eligible blood donors can donate blood 3-4 times a year safely. HMC staff  ensure that blood donation is safe and hygienic through its streamlined procedures of registration, donation and screening. Blood donation takes no more than 15-20 minutes.

In an emergency, anyone can receive type O red blood cells, and type AB individuals can receive red blood cells of any ABO type. Therefore, people with type O blood are known as "universal donors," and those with type AB blood are known as "universal recipients." In addition, AB plasma donors can give to all blood types.

The Blood Bank hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 9:00pm and on Saturdays from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Organisations that would like to host the Mobile Blood Bank can call 44391082 to make arrangements.

Commercialbank is committed to supporting social, educational and charitable activities aimed at reinforcing awareness of the importance of constructive and positive participation in social issues while building a sense of citizenship, belonging and community.
