The launch of Doha Festival City’s Outdoor Leisure Trail was the definition of family and fitness fun this weekend as over 600 people attended its launch and took part in activities from the early hours of the morning.

Members of the Qatar Cycling Federation kicked off proceedings with a fast-paced time trial around the circuit, with David Nichols winning with a time of 6 minutes and 10 seconds.Participants then walked, ran and cycled their way around the 3 km track surrounding the Mall.All ---those taking part in the races showcased a lot of passion and determination, and the running, walking and cycling sessions drew a huge crowd of both participants and spectators. XREBEL stunt riders from XTÔRK gave three breath-taking shows that wowed spectators, who also enjoyed a special appearance from Red Bull BMX athlete, Mansour Al Safran. The XREBELS also gave some lucky audience members the chance to ride BMX bikes and pull some of their own stunts.

Visitors enjoyed a festival style event with IKEA, Toys R Us, Tim Hortons, Shake Shack, Go Sport and Red Bull hosting kiosks in the event village. Trevor Hill, General Manager of Doha Festival City Mall said: “We were very excited to welcome our first visitors to the Outdoor Leisure Trail today, it’s amazing to see our vision of creating a space for the whole community, come to life. The trail has been specially designed for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy so we want to encourage everyone to come down, try it out and get active!”

The mountain bike cycle track has 13 different technical trail features and offers various surfaces with inbuilt gradients and obstacles to suit all abilities of mountain bikers and was designed by British company, Architrail. The running track also has exercise stations along the route, allowing both casual and more serious runners to exercise and enjoy the green spaces being created as part of the project.
