In line with the 10-year National Traffic Safety Strategy (2013-2022) launched by the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) which aims to reduce the number of traffic accident victims and decrease the number of deaths resulted from road accidents annually (to less than six deaths per 100,000 people by 2022) and following the commendable efforts being undertaken by the authorities to make Qatar’s roads safer, the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) has partnered with ELAN Decaux to raise awareness among residents about the importance of child car seats.

In this regard, UCQ nursing students have worked on an awareness campaign as part of a project to enhance health in the community. To address the issue, students prepared visuals, one of which was selected together with ELAN Decaux to be displayed on their 2sqm advertising panels spread throughout Doha and around key shopping centres such as Villaggio Mall to reach out to the community and spread this message among the population of Qatar.

Dr. Deborah White, University of Calgary in Qatar Dean and CEO, said, “The University of Calgary in Qatar is always looking for ways to promote and improve the health and wellbeing of the community around us. Initiatives like this one show the important role nurses play as community health leaders and demonstrate how nurses contribute at an important strategic level to achieving Qatar’s health and wellness goals as set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Health Strategy. We’re grateful to community partners like ELAN Decaux for supporting us in making a difference in our community.”

Abdulaziz Al-Khalifa, Chairman of ELAN Decaux, said: “We are very proud to partner with the University of Calgary in Qatar in its efforts to raise awareness about road safety in Qatar and display this campaign on our street furniture advertising panels around Doha to reach the largest audience. This initiative also echoes the strong commitment of ELAN Decaux towards the 2030 National Vision for the country, and more specifically towards Health & Safety in general and road safety. We strongly believe this outdoor advertising campaign will raise public awareness for this sensitive issue and encourage the population of Qatar to take immediate action that would save lives and prevent serious injuries.”
