After defeating their Croatian counterparts 30-23 in their Olympic debut, Team Qatar’s handball athletes are slated to face off against France today in the Future Arena at 15:30 Doha time. Team Qatar narrowly lost to the previous Olympic and World Champions – the first team to ever hold both titles simultaneously – in the 2015 Handball World Championships so today’s match is set to be an epic showdown.

Epic match ahead for 1 [].jpgMeanwhile Monday 8th August saw Team Qatar’s beach volleyball athletes, Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse, secure their first ever Olympic win after defeating Spain 2-1. The duo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after losing the first set of the game to the Spaniards. Speaking before the competition, Younousse said: “We are here to get the gold – just like everybody. In the Olympics everyone is looking for a medal. So we will do our absolute best and after that, we’ll leave the rest to God and see what he has in store for us.”

Despite losing, Team Qatar’s Morad Zemouri made history by competing in the first ever judo match in Qatar’s sporting history against his experienced Belgian opponent Dirk Van Tichelt in the Carioca Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Team Qatar’s Li Ping also met defeat Monday to his German counterpart Dimitrij Ovtcharov, who is ranked 5th worldwide, after a grueling hour-long game. Although Ping won the first set comfortably the German took the upper hand and despite a late comeback Ping was unable to pull through losing 4-3.
