On Tuesday, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed visited Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) including its member organisations, Aspetar, the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital and Aspire Academy during an official visit to Qatar. The Prime Minister got to see close up the role that AZF and its member organisations play in the development of sports, and in particular football, in Qatar across the region.

The Prime Minister was welcomed by the CEO of Aspire Zone Foundation and Aspetar’s Director General, Mohammed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi and a number of senior officials. The first location that the Prime Minister visited was Aspetar, where he was briefed on the medical services that the hospital provides for athletes, looking at the rehabilitation and altitude rooms, which have an altitude range from 500 to 4500 metres, enabling athletes to adopt a “live high-train low” regime whereby they can reside in comfort at raised altitudes, while training at sea level.

After Aspetar, the Prime Minister headed to the football performance centre, where he foresaw the modern methodology that is based on a holistic view which integrates all the physical and psychological variables that influence football performance. In addition, his excellence witnessed a number of training sessions that took place. He was also able to access the world-class football pitches that host the elite international training camps on an annual basis.

Towards the conclusion of his visit, the Ethiopian Prime Minister expressed his admiration for what he witnessed at AZF. The CEO of AZF Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi presented a memorable accolade in honour of Prime Minister Ahmed’s visit to AZF.
