Thousands of Asian expatriates thronged Asian Town and Al Khor Sports Complex to celebrate Eid Al Fitr. A cricket tournament, cultural shows, film screening and special Eid cuisine offered by restaurants made Eid holidays memorable for a large number of people.

Cultural shows organised by the local authority in association with socio-cultural organisations of different Asian communities helped spread the message of Eid. More than 1,000 budding artistes from different socio-cultural organisations from Asian communities, including India Cultural Center (ICC), Skills Development Center, Non Resident Nepalese Association, Sri Lankan Coordination Committee (SSLC) and Korean Association of Qatar), showcased their skills at these venues.
Shows held at the Amphitheatre and on a stage near the cricket stadium left people spellbound.

President of the Indian Cultural Centre K Girish Kumar said,"More than 500 budding artistes, including students, from the Indian community participated in the two days of cultural shows at the Amphitheater." A month-long cricket tournament organised by IbnAjayan Projects in association with the Ministry of Culture and Sports concluded at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. More than 12 teams from Asian communities participated in the tournament. 'Centurians' won the IbnAjayan Trophy along with a cash prize of QR50,000.

Textile and gift shops opened at the Asian Town commercial complex offered a good shopping experience to the visitors. Yunus Muhamed, manager of a textile shop, said,"We have seen good business this Eid. The number of people visiting Asian Town for shopping has doubled." Late night screenings of Bollywood movie Sultan and Malayalam movie Happy Wedding were big draws at the Asian Town Cinema. Al Khor Workers' Sports Complex also witnessed a huge crowd on the first and second days of Eid. Cultural shows were attended by a large number of workers living in various labour camps.

The local authority has organised various fun and quiz programmes for the workers and winners of different contests were given attractive gifts. The screening of films at the open theater was another attraction. The bus services launched by Mowasalat to Asian Town and Al Khor have made transportation easy for the working class living at different labour camps in Industrial Area and Al Khor.
