ExxonMobil subject-matter experts led four courses in April as part of the Tamayoz training program, an initiative launched in 2012 to share ExxonMobil’s technical, commercial and operational expertise with Qatar’s workforce. The Tamayoz program emphasizes ExxonMobil Qatar’s direct support for the Qatar National Vision 2030 by sharing experience, disseminating knowledge and instilling best practices with partners and individuals in Qatar’s energy industry.

Subject areas covered during the courses were commercial, technical (surface and subsurface) and project management. More than 120 courses have been offered to ExxonMobil partners free of charge with nearly 1,700 individuals receiving training since 2012 “ExxonMobil’s ongoing commitment to the development of Qatar’s national workforce drives the Tamayoz training program,” said Alistair Routledge, President and General Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar. “By sharing industry-leading technical, commercial and operational expertise, ExxonMobil Qatar contributes to the Qatar National Vision 2030 through the energy of its people, its advanced technology and its expertise in operational excellence.”

Routledge explained, “The State of Qatar’s transformation towards a knowledge-based economy lies in its strongest asset: people power. ExxonMobil Qatar is providing the energy that fuels human potential through the professional and personal development of the employees of Qatar Petroleum and our joint ventures. By empowering the next generation of Qatari business leaders so they can add value locally and compete globally, ExxonMobil is helping to establish a solid foundation for Qatar’s sustainable future.”

The Commercial Power Basics course was held in early April for a targeted group of attendees. Kicking off with a brief review of electricity fundamentals, the intensive one-day program also provided an overview of the primary power generation technologies, fuel types, thermal generation and renewable energy sources. The training closed with a presentation about cogeneration and a brief discussion on transmission.

This week-long course provided background on concepts and terminology for both surface and subsurface production systems and equipment. Participants were able to identify the step-wise methods to find, produce and process gas, oil and water. Perhaps most importantly, the course is tailored for each attendee to help them place their own specialty within the overview of production.

The in-depth Project Engineering Overview was a week-long program that falls under the Project Management subject area. The course targeted currently assigned project engineers and emerging project engineer candidates to enhance their skills and competencies. Upon completion, participants were able to describe the roles and responsibilities of a project engineer during capital projects, discuss major work processes underpinning the position, assess and critique contractor performance and distinguish and evaluate key interfaces.

Launched in support of His Highness the Emir’s vision to increase participation of Qatari nationals in the workforce, Tamayoz provides professional and personal development opportunities for valued partner Qatar Petroleum and joint ventures RasGas and Qatargas. The Tamayoz training program channels its programming under six critical competency areas; leadership and personal effectiveness, project management, commercial, and operations excellence, technical (surface and subsurface) and safety, health and the environment.

ExxonMobil is committed to supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030 by providing the energy needed to fuel human potential; to support research, safety, health and the environment; and to nurture Qatar’s thriving society.
