The first-ever Qatar ‘Workers Fun Run’ will take place in Doha tomorrow at Aspire Park starting at 8am.

Organised by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, the International Labour Organisation and the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the 5km run brings together migrant workers from many sectors in a fun and unique event that promotes togetherness and good health.

The Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs,H E Yousef bin Mohammed Al Othman Fakhro, will wave the flag to start the run at 8am. “This event recognises workers and their great contribution to the development of modern-day Qatar. We plan for it to become an annual event of recognition,” said Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidly, Assistant Under-Secretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry. While participation in the ‘Workers Fun Run’ is mainly limited to workers from companies representing various sectors, members of the public are warmly encouraged to come along and cheer on the runners.

“The community event encourages people from all backgrounds and walks of life to come together and celebrate the importance of unity and diversity. Having a big crowd come and cheer on the runners will be of great value and meaning, and is an excellent way to mark together International Worker’s Day (May 1),” said Bahia Tahzib-Lie, Ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to Qatar.
