Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Ambulance Service responded to emergency calls after an explosion at a restaurant in a shopping complex in Al Duhail this morning. 

Working together with agencies including the Ministry of the Interior and Civil Defense, HMC’s highly trained paramedics treated critical patients at the scene. Other patients were transported to Hamad General Hospital where they are receiving the best care possible from our specialized trauma and clinical teams.

HMC management and staff were at the Hospital’s Emergency Department supporting patients, families and the clinical teams who were receiving injured patients. HMC can confirm there were 11 fatalities as a result of the incident.

There are currently 35 patients being treated at Hamad General Hospital, one of them is still in a critical condition, the others are stable. Families of those involved are being given full emotional support by HMC’s trained professional and are being kept continually informed and guided through all steps associated with treatment the patients are receiving

Among those receiving treatment are two female patients (a woman and a child) and 33 male patients. The nationalities of the injured currently being treated include 12 from India, nine from Nepal, five from Pakistan, two from The Philippines, two from Egypt and one each from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Yemen, Tunisia and Qatar.

The causes of the accident are currently under investigation by the authorities. The leadership and staff of HMC extend their heartfelt sympathy to those involved in this tragic incident as well as their families and loved ones.
