Gulf Bridge International, GBI, the Middle East’s first privately owned submarine cable operator, has been awarded ISO 9001 2008, accreditation by the SGS group, a global leader in independent Quality Management Systems Certification.

ISO accreditation will give GBI even greater worldwide recognition and demonstrate that the company is adhering to the highest global practices and standards. As an organization, GBI is growing fast and ISO accreditation will add value to shareholders, by reducing risk and increasing transparency.

It is rather unique for a relatively young company such as GBI to gain this accreditation, as the majority of companies who apply are well established. However, we are determined to lay the right foundations on which to build a strong and efficient business, which will offer unparalleled service and maximize shareholder value. This will stand us in good stead for the launch of our services later this year” stated Mr. Ahmed Mekky, Board Member and CEO of GBI

To guarantee that the maximum benefit of registration, GBI established cross functional teams lead by Mr. Khaled Naguib, SVP Corporate and Administration, to customize the quality standards in order to address the business’s specific operational requirements.

To achieve this accreditation, GBI was audited by SGS during December 2010. This accreditation is part of GBI’s overall Corporate Governance and Quality Plan and is only the first of many accreditations that GBI will seek over the coming months as the business grows.
