Undersecretaries to Tourism Ministers and Chairpersons of Tourism Authorities in the Gulf Co-operation Council gather in Doha to set action plans to support development within tourism in the Gulf.

On the first day of their meeting, Their Excellencies focused on exploring mechanisms to enhance intra-GCC tourism, while building on the success of the Cruise Arabia Alliance, a regional collaboration that is strengthening the Gulf’s position as a cruise destination.

His Excellency Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority opened the meeting by encouraging the officials to speed up joint GCC action to ensure all member states benefit from mega events coming to the region in the coming decade, such as Dubai Expo 2020 and the FIFA World Cup 2022. “It is true that our collaboration in tourism at the GCC-wide level only started recently. However I hope that our meeting today will boost strategic plans and give them the speed needed to ensure mechanisms for intra-GCC tourism are in place as soon as possible,” he said.

Their Excellencies also laid the groundwork for a regular GCC Handicrafts Exhibition, the first edition of which will be hosted by Qatar.
