GEMS American Academy-Qatar (GAA), the first GEMS Education school in Qatar, has welcomed its first intake of students. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 have now settled into the Al Wakrah-based school and are enjoying their new school thoroughly.

Over the last month students have been engaged in a variety of activities ranging from student assemblies to after school activities. At back to school night all students performed a musical interlude by singing and playing instruments before their parents and then as Eid approached we recognized a very special celebration forthe pilgrimage to Mecca. More precisely, it involved the welcoming home of those friends returning from their Hajj. It was quite amazing and truly a monumental occasion to watch the students perform.

The after school activities are up and running too! As always, many activities appear to be favorites. These activities include Spanish Club, Cultural Dance, Lego Club, Choir, Robotics and Yoga. Micheal Wood, Principal of GEMS American Academy, said he is honoured to welcome students to the first GEMS school in the country. His interaction with students and parents in the first month has been tremendous.

Parents interested in registering their children for the coming academic year should contact the school registrar, Bernadette Riemer-Harris at [email protected]or visit for more information.
