Discover Education City (DEC), an event for high school students, their parents and school administrators to learn about some of the valuable higher education opportunities available in Qatar, will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of October from 5pm until 8pm.

The two day event will take place in the Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Center in Education City (pictured). Throughout this event, prospective students and their parents will have the opportunity to gain insight into the majors offered at the various universities as well as learn more about the undergraduate student experience.

As part of Discover Education City’s program, there will be presentations about HBKU and the universities. These sessions will help students and their families to make informed decisions for their future. Additionally, the sessions will run on both days, and simultaneously in English and Arabic.

At Discover Education City, prospective students will also be able to meet representatives from some of the world’s leading universities that have been established at Education City at the event fair. The universities participating in this year’s DEC are Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Texas A & M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and Northwestern University in Qatar.

HBKU’s Student Affairs Department will also be represented at Discover Education City to provide prospective students with information on financial aid, scholarships, the student center and student life.

Khalifa Al Salahi, Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator at HBKU, said:  “We aim to reach out to high school students and assist them in understanding the admissions process relating to HBKU’s partner universities. Discover Education City comes as the ideal platform to offer the public at large, and especially potential students and their parents, the critical universities’ admissions and testing information.”

Other Qatar Foundation centers such as Qatar Career Fair (QCF), Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) and the Academic Bridge Program (ABP) will participate in the event this year as well. Additionally, The Higher Education Institute (HEI) and Bedaya Center will also be represented.

Last year’s ‘Discover Education City’ saw a great turn out with more than 1600 students and parents attending.
