Faculty members and scientists at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been named among the top 2 percent of the world’s most-cited in the career achievement category, part of a global list compiled by Stanford University, USA. 

Four scientists from HBKU’s Qatar Computing Research institute made the list, which included Dr. Ahmed Elmagarmid, Founding Executive Director; Dr. Bernard Jansen, Principal Scientist; Dr. Issa Khalil; Principal Scientist; and Dr. Preslav Nakov, Principal Scientist, who were recognized for their contributions to their respective fields. Other researchers from the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) were identified among the achievers, which honored Dr. Paul Thornalley, Scientific Director, Diabetes Research Center at QBRI. Also listed among the awardees was Dr. Golibjon Berdiyorov, Senior Scientist, Disruptive Technologies Program, Energy Center at the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.

Faculty members from HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering were honored in the same category. The Stanford University team analyzed millions of scientists worldwide, combining several metrics to systematically rank the most influential by scientific field, as measured by citations. The prestigious database has been published in the PLOS Biology journal.
