Qatar Minister of Education and Higher Education H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi honored the Day 2 of Qatar University’s (QU) Annual Research Forum & Exhibition 2018.

Themed “Pioneering Research”, the 2-day event (May 1-2) brought together QU’s students, researchers, academics, and partners, as well as local stakeholders. It is a platform to demonstrate QU’s new research tools, programs, collaborations, and relevant projects that align with QU Research Roadmap 2014-2019, Qatar National Research Strategy, and Qatar National Vision 2030.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi was joined by QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, French Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Eric Chevallier, QU VP for Research and Graduate Studies Prof. Mariam Al-Maadeed, and representatives of Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), Total, and Aljazeera Media Network, as well as delegates from MINES ParisTech, Université Bretagne Sud, Université Paris-Est, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Université d’Artois, and Université de Bordeaux.

During the first session, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi awarded the winners of the Research Excellence Awards -- Dr. Adriaan Stephanus Luyt (Science & Engineering), Prof. Said Elbanna (Humanities & Social Sciences), and Dr. Hatem Zayed (Biomedical, Medical & Health Sciences).

The Day 2 program included three sessions on “International Cooperation and Research Strategies”, “International Experiences in Research and Graduate Studies: The French Experience as a Model”, and “Research towards innovation, intellectual property and commercialization”. They were moderated by Director of the Policy Department at QU Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) Dr. Majid Al-Ansari, QU College of Law (QU-LAWC) Assistant Professor of Private Law Dr. Yassin Elshazly, and QU Director of Research Planning and Development Dr. Aiman Erbad.

Also on the program was a Poster Awards Ceremony. Winners of the Best Research Poster of Faculty and Postdoctorate were Hassan Mehboob and Faris Tarlochan (Sciences & Engineering), Maryam A. Al-Thani and Salma M. (Humanities & Social Sciences), and Nahla Eltai, Asmaa Al-Thani, Sara Hadid, Eman Wehedy, Anand Deshmukh, Khalid Alansari and Hadi Yassine (Biomedical, Medical & Health Sciences).

Winners of the Best Research Poster of Graduate Students were Mohammad Ashfaq, Mohammad Al-Ghouti, Nabil Zouari and Hazim Qiblawey (Sciences & Engineering), Noora Hamad Al-Hajri (Humanities & Social Sciences), Sara Taleb, Shilu Mathew, Maria Smatti, Khalid Alansari, Asmaa Althani and Hadi M. Yassine (Biomedical, Medical & Health Sciences). Winners of the Best Research Poster of Undergraduate Students were Minoli Doshi and Dr. Samir Jaoua (Sciences & Engineering), Rana Abuakar (Humanities & Social Sciences), and Raghad AL-Ishaq and Pejman Hanifi-Moghaddam (Biomedical, Medical & Health Sciences).

In his remarks, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi said: “The annual Annual Research Forum & Exhibition is a distinguished event that is moving forward while achieving consecutive accomplishments due to the leadership and efforts of the research and graduate sector at Qatar University. The forum’s theme "Pioneering research" emphasizes the University’s ongoing endeavors to provide more opportunities to conduct quality research and apply modern approaches that produce innovative and authentic knowledge and provide effective solutions that meet the national priorities of society and the country.”

Dr. Hassan Al Derham said: “The Annual Research Forum & Exhibition is an opportunity to develop the future of QU’s research strategy, to showcase outstanding research projects, and to highlight the outcomes of the successful partnerships between QU and institutions from industry. The forum also underlines QU’s ongoing efforts to ensure the best practices within its graduate programs.”

Prof. Mariam Al-Maadeed presented a summary of QU’s development since its establishment. She highlighted the University’s interest in international cooperation in various sectors, disciplines and cooperative research partnerships through the joint funding program. She said: “The launch of QU Press in April 2018 aimed to support and develop education and research at the University through the publication of digital and printed publications. Additionally, the Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property at QU ensures the protection of the University’s intellectual property and contributes to enhancing the socio-economic welfare in the State of Qatar.”
