HH Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser, the vice president of the Supreme Council for Education sponsored on Monday morning the inauguration ceremony of the Community College of Qatar. HH then toured the various sections of the College, during which she inspected the classes, computer labs, laboratories, library and educational facilities available to students in the building. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies Sheikhs and ministers, regional and international experts and senior officials of education and higher education besides members of the collage administrative and teaching staff.

The Community College is the first of its kind in Qatar which will grant three internationally recognized scientific certificates and Arts and Sciences diplomas, as well as certificates in Applied Sciences and Professional Studies in the areas of communications, media, administrative sciences, banks and structural engineering. The college will promote opportunities for excellence and will provide options and alternatives educational campaign for Qatari students.

For his part, Minister Of Education And Higher Education HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud has said that the Community College is a new monument and edifices of education in our beloved country, Qatar and its establishment has come in response to the vision of HH Sheikh Moza Bin Nasser who has paid most attention to education to become a strong building block in achieving the Vision of Qatar 2030. In his opening address of the community college in Qatar, HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud stressed the right of all Qatari citizens to access to educational opportunities that are consistent with their abilities and interests and prepare them for participation in the labor market and thus we will achieve the desired goal which is the preparation of the citizens of the State of Qatar to become part of the economic driving force for development in the state as well as active participation in building the society.

“ The opening of the college came as an expression and a reflection of the education reform initiative 'Education for a new era'. It is also a pioneering educational institution of higher education and provide various opportunities for continuing education”, said HE Al Mahmoud. HE further said, “The College has enrolled a total number of 304 Qatari students at the beginning of the academic year 2010/2011. With the start of the second semester, the number has increased to approximately 450 male Qatari students. We expect to double the number to 1500 students through the next years”, he added.

“The philosophy of the Community College in Qatar is based on providing opportunities for students for study in order to obtain an Associate Degree that qualifies graduates either to complete university studies or obtain a university degree (bachelor) or immediately join he labor market with a certificate that qualifies them to work in the area of their specialization and enable students to complete their education in that area at any time in the future”, HE the Education Minister told the audience.

Elaborating HE the minister said, “the College offers in the first stage three kinds of certificates namely: Associate degree in Humanities and Social Science, Associate Degree in Science and Associate Degree in Applied Science; noting however that the College has established a relationship of partnership with one of the best Community Colleges in the USA ( Houston Community College) which help us by providing qualified faculty members as well as proven and successful educational programs.”
