To conserve energy and raise awareness of the climate change, Hilton Doha Hotel took action locally by joining a global initiative that is open to more than 4,900 Hilton properties across 104 countries and territories.

“Every year, we are very much committed to this activity, as we understand the importance of this global celebration for our community, to our generation and the future. We worked actively the entire day to engage both team members and guests in the purpose of Earth Hour and the enjoyment of being involved in the cause” said Adham El Sebaey. “Our role is to engage everyone and reach as much participation as possible in order to make a difference and achieve measureable, visible and lasting results.” “Year after year, we do everything we can to keep preserving the Earth and contribute in our own way to make it a better place” said Petra Ksaifi, Human Resources Manager.

The Earth Hour was celebrated by Hilton Doha through the following activities:

  • Yoga session – Since this day was all about making a change towards a healthier, more responsible lifestyle, Hilton Doha kicked the day with a morning yoga session, for guests and team members to start fresh.
  • Hilton Doha sun shields for the Doha community – By noon time, packed with lots of sun shields, Hilton Doha team led by Adham El Sebaey, general manager, took over the Doha Al Corniche, giving away shields to the people of the community.
  • Lights Off presentation at the lobby – Hilton Doha hosted the Lights Off performance in the lobby during the official Earth Hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. An acoustic live music show was rendered by Team Members, followed by a LED light show in the dark. Raffle draw of prizes for the guests, the creation of 60+ shape made out of candles and 60+ cupcakes for everyone were the highlights of the hour. An “I pledge” board was placed in the lobby in order for everyone to write their pledge for the conservation of Mother Earth.

Hilton Doha also invited its local community to participate in Hilton’s global Earth Hour social media contest. Building on the event’s core theme – turning off the lights for an hour to save energy – contestants were invited to submit a photo and caption showing how they celebrated the event. The contest’s grand prize offered travel and accommodation, including a five-night stay at the spectacular Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre in Iceland. The #TravelwithPurposeContest opened March 21 and closes on April 1. A winner will be announced on Earth Day, April 22. In 2015, Hilton and WWF announced a multi-year commitment to collaborate on a water-stewardship strategy, expand sustainable seafood efforts, advance food waste efforts and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across Hilton’s portfolio.
