The Indonesian Muslim Society in Qatar (Imsqa) has raised QR105,000 as part of the global fund-raising campaign initiated by the National Committee for the People of Palestine, an Indonesia-based non-government organisation. The amount, which was collected during the Holy Month of Ramadan, was handed over to the Committee in Doha recently.

Talking to Qatar Tribune on Thursday, Nurwenda, counsellor of Information and Socio-Culture Section at the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, said the overwhelming support of Indonesian nationals in Qatar to the fund-raising drive reflects Indonesia's support to the Palestinians in Gaza. Overall, the Committee had raised QR1.4 million for the cause from Indonesians across the globe. "We want to use the celebration of Eid Al Fitr as an occasion to express our solidarity and support to our brothers and sisters in Palestine. In this regard, the Indonesian Muslim Society in Qatar has collected 'Infaq' and 'Sadaqah'. We realised that this is not a huge amount, but it is a reflection of how Indonesian people love and support Palestinian brothers and sisters in Gaza," said Nurwenda.

The importance of the cause was also underlined during a community gathering on the first day of Eid Al Fitr celebrations held at Tareeq Bin Ziyad Independent Secondary School grounds in Doha on Monday. More than 600 Indonesian Muslims in Qatar participated in the Eid Al Fitr prayer organised by the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, in cooperation with Imsqa. In the evening of the first day of Eid Al Fitr, an 'open house' event was hosted by the Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar HE Deddy Saiful Hadi and his wife at their residence in West Bay. The event was graced by members of the community and those from related diplomatic missions, international organisations and various communities in Qatar.

Prior to Eid Al Fitr, the embassy and Imsqa had hosted several activities throughout Ramadan, including Tarhib Ramadan, Iftar Jamai with Indonesian labourers, Ramadan tent, Itikaf, and other activities.
