Jaidah Group – one of the most influential and successful conglomerates operating in Qatar – is set to take part in the National Sports Day by having entered a team into an ongoing six-a-side football tournament which has been sponsored by the Qatar Olympic Committee. The tournament began on January 19 and culminates on the Sports Day itself later this month.

This inaugural tournament – organised by Al Arab newspaper – is a continuance of the theme established by the initiative of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent, to appoint the second Tuesday of February each year as National Sports Day which falls this year on February 12.

Jaidah Group is committed to all activities within Qatar which are aligned both with the ethos of National Sports Day, and the general benefits to well-being that come from a more active lifestyle. As a result, the Group is entering a team into the competition.

Each participating organisation was able to nominate one team only, made up of 11 players (six starting players and five substitutes). Players are required be employees of the organisation they are representing and Jaidah Group’s team have also been taking to the field of play in tournament-approved kits.

There are some spectacular prizes and accolades on offer for the winning teams. The overall winners of the tournament will receive a cash prize of QR75,000, a winners’ cup and individual gold medals for the team members. The runners-up will receive QR50,000 and silver medals, and the third-placed team will receive bronze medals as well as QR25,000.

In addition to the team prizes, there are a number of ‘incentive cups’ to be won and which will be awarded to: the tournament’s best coach, the most valuable player, the best goalkeeper, the top goal scorer, and the best administrator.

Jaidah Group’s Chief Development Officer, Mr Mohamed Jaidah, commented: “Jaidah Group has an ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and the betterment, as a proud Qatari company, of the society in which we conduct our business. We’re also enthusiastic about sport in general and football in particular, so to combine the final of the six-a-side tournament with the National Sports Day made a very compelling case for our current involvement."

“We’ve assembled a team that we’re hopeful will do the company proud. The benefits to Jaidah Group of getting involved in this type of competitive activity are numerous. The team-building, mixing and bonding with colleagues, the spirit of competition and fair play – all of these things are good for employee morale and make for a happier and more productive workplace."

“Jaidah Group’s involvement in the tournament is about us doing our part to help develop healthy habits and support Qatar in its stated drive to develop sports initiatives across the country. For all of the above reasons, Jaidah Group is proud to be taking part in the ongoing six-a-side tournament and all of the other sporting activities which will be taking place on the National Sports Day, just as the football tournament reaches its conclusion.”
