Following last year’s outstanding success, Maersk Oil and Qatar Petroleum (QP) are organising the second Qatari corporate adventure race, the ‘Maersk Oil and QP Challenge 2013’. Thirty teams from different companies and organisations in Qatar will again compete over two exhilarating days, raising money for and awareness of the ‘Action on Diabetes’ partnership, and taking part in Qatar’s ultimate team building and networking event.

The two-day desert challenge will take place in the spectacular Zekreet peninsula. Teams will complete four demanding stages with an overnight stay in the desert. To win the event, teams will need to combine mental agility with strong physical performance and great team work. Participants will find themselves orienteering by GPS, completing construction projects, navigating in the desert at night and solving challenging team problems.

“Last year’s challenge event, which was also themed around diabetes, raised USD $100,000 for projects that support diabetes research, education and awareness in Qatar” says Lewis Affleck, Managing Director of Maersk Oil in Qatar. “Physically it was quite tough, but it was also a lot of fun and there were a lot of really great team building opportunities. We are proud to work with our long-term partner Qatar Petroleum to host this year’s competition”.

“Regular physical activity is important to reduce the risk of diabetes Type 2” says Abdulrahman Al-Obaidly, Head of Public Relations at QP. “The Maersk Oil and QP Challenge event actively promotes exercise and physical fitness and is a very visible platform for us to help raise awareness of diabetes in Qatar. We challenge companies and organisations in Qatar to take part”.

The Maersk Oil and QP Challenge will take place on the 16th and 17th November 2013.

Registration opens today. Qatar Petroleum have taken the first two team places, twenty-eight remain! Details and registration at www.maerskoilandqpchallenge.com.
