The Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rumaihi is likely to inaugurate the third edition of the Local Dates Festival 2018 at Souq Waqif in Doha on Thursday.

Organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the 17-day festival aims at supporting and encouraging local production of dates as part of Qatar's keenness to boost all national products in order to achieve food security. The festival also aims at raising awareness of farmers about the latest farming methods, as well as how to take care of palm trees and enhance quality of dates by providing them a platform for exchange of ideas and expertise. Furthermore, it seeks to encourage healthy competition among the local farmers.

During the festival, the public will be provided with all information related to the services offered by the ministry in the field of dates and palms. The festival will also introduce residents to the wide variety of locally produced dates, such as Khallas, Khnezi, Burhi and Shishi. The festival is being sponsored by Souq Waqif.
