"We are looking forward to meet our kababayans in Qatar and have fun with them," said Filipino movie actor Jomari Yllana. Yllana and nine other Manila-based celebrities arrived in Doha on Thursday in preparation for their appearance in the day-long Eid Al Fitr celebrations for the Filipino community at Al Attiyah Sports Arena on Friday.

The event titled 'Filipino Community Celebrates Eid Al Fitr-Celebrity Basketball Tournament' is expected to host thousands of Filipino families and other visitors. Addressing the media during a press conference held at InterContinental Doha The City, Yllana said such overseas projects give them an opportunity to take a break from their hectic schedule back home. The actor has recently won a political seat in his home city. While rap artist Carlos Agassi said he was excited to see the developments in the country. He had been in Qatar several years ago.

Marlou Aquino, a retired professional basketball player of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), recalled his earlier experience in meeting Filipinos in Qatar. The athlete had visited the country several times in the past during appearances for PBA Legends in Doha. Another former PBA player in the guest roster, Chester Tolomia, expressed excitement for being given another opportunity to play in Doha. Actors Joko Diaz and Rocco Nacino shared their upcoming projects which includes new TV series in one of the largest television networks in the Philippines. Other featured artists who addressed the media were former boxer-turned-comedian Onyok Velasco, actor Jason Abalos and actresses Sam Pinto and Daina Menezes.

Mawi Florida, owner of Kamayan sa Doha and member of the Organising Committee, added that the event on Friday will not only feature a friendly basketball game but also an array of programmes such as food and non-food bazaar, kiddie games along with surprise treats for the crowd. The community event will kick off with a parade from 10am followed by performances of celebrities and local acts. The friendly basketball game will see the celebrities in action against a select team of Doha-based Filipino players. The programme will conclude with a meet and greet and autograph signing session with the celebrities for VIP ticket holders.
