To mark Human Rights Day, the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara in cooperation with the United Nations Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will organise ‘The Celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal declaration of Human Rights’ through diverse events and activities from tomorrow until Sunday.

The celebration features a wide array of entertaining and informative events and activities for all ages. They include workshops for children, games, and a wall expressing human rights perspectives. In addition, the Cultural Diversity Festival will present traditional performances from China, Algeria, and Macedonia. A fine art symposium will be organised with the participation of 20 artists comprising Qataris and expatriates. Furthermore, a concert will be held with the participation of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Katara will embrace this celebration which stems from its conscious vision of the close connection between culture and cases of rights and freedom. The Cultural Village also strongly believes that human cultural rights constitute an asset and a qualitative addition to human rights. In addition, Katara seeks to promote human rights awareness, the spirit of cooperation and tolerance, the culture of law, spread peace and freedom among peoples, and attain a unique cultural identity for each society,” said Katara General Manager, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti.

Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Secretary-General of NHRC, said that the committee always seeks in its various activities to strengthen its partnerships and cooperate with partners to achieve mutual goals. She said the celebration of Human Rights Day with Katara and United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Center (UNHRTDC) comes within the framework of a series of cooperation and abundant experiences in spreading and establishing human rights culture in our social environment. George Abu Al Zulf, Director of UNHRTDC for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, expressed his utmost happiness to hold the event.
