On 15 October 2014, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, in collaboration with the GCC General Secretariat, will organize a workshop on "Consolidation of Sustainable Development Concept," at the Four Seasons Hotel (pictured), Doha. 

Participants from the State of Qatar will include nearly 120 officials from various ministries, government agencies and the private sector, including the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics; the Ministry of Economy and Trade; the Ministry of Environment; Qatar University; Qatar Petroleum; Permanent Population Committee; and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

The workshop will discuss working papers submitted by GCC General Secretariat; Arab League; Arab Planning Institute; KSA Ministry of Economy and Planning; Sultanate of Oman’s General Secretariat of the Planning Council; Kingdom of Bahrain’s Ministry of Finance and Supreme Council for Environment; Kuwait’s General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development; ESCWA; Arab Forum for Environment & Development; United Nations Environment Programme.

Through the workshop, participants will seek to clarify the concept of sustainable development, its importance, and its linkage to Qatar’s National Development Strategy 2011- 2016. Furthermore, they will shed light on the efforts of Qatar’s ministries and government agencies to achieve the strategy. In addition, they will review and examine some Gulf, Arab, and international experiences, as well as the experiences of the United Nations and the Arab League. Participants will also extract lessons learned from these experiences and make appropriate recommendations.
