Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) and Qatar Shell co-hosted a special interactive forum for regional participants of the Middle East Leadership Academy (MELA), featuring Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Hassan Al Thawadi.

Mr. Al Thawadi has played a leading role in the country’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup, earlier as CEO of the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, which secured Qatar’s ambition to bring the event to the Middle East for the first time. Mr. Al Thawadi was formerly General Counsel for both Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Holding.

After surveying the challenges of leading Qatar’s 2022 development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, Mr. Al Thawadi engaged participants in a question-and-answer session.  The conversation centered on Mr. Al Thawadi’s leadership philosophy as well as how to best recognize talent and develop professionals to their full potential.

“It was a pleasure to be involved in this event and share some thoughts with the future leaders who may help shape the destiny of Qatar and the rest of the Middle East,” noted Mr. Al Thawadi. “I was honored to play a part in this experience by giving some insight about the challenges I have faced and overcome throughout my career.”

MELA participants had the opportunity to draw upon a range of faculty expertise and apply the experience to their respective organizations.  The 10-day program brought together 40 leaders from various sectors across the Middle East to share ideas and best practices for personal and professional development.  MELA’s fifth annual program, which took place from 6 March to 16 March, was held in Doha and included participants from Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Foundation, Qatargas and Qatar Shell among others.

Earlier in the week, Qatar Shell executives Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman, and Rob Sherwin, Deputy Country Chair, discussed corporate social responsibility and developing promising talent with attendees.  MELA’s intensive curriculum included numerous activities designed to encompass the different aspects of leadership development.

QLC supports a critical component of Qatar’s 2030 goals by investing in leadership development.
