Aviators and watch enthusiasts in Qatar are now able to sport the latest addition to the Breitling family, the Cockpit B50. The new multifunction electronic chronograph was unveiled under the whir of jet engines at the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada, in September. As a presenting sponsor of the races, Breitling Vice President, Jean-Paul Girardin, joined world famous aviators, former astronaut Mark Kelly and Red Bull Air Race competitor, Nigel Lamb to introduce the new timepiece to the Reno crowd of pilots and aviation racing fans.
The Cockpit B50, which is now available at Breitling retailers across the Middle East, was designed specifically for pilots with a range of highly technical but easy to use functions. It is equipped with an exclusive in-house SuperQuartz movement, the B50 Caliber, which is 10 times more accurate than standard quartz and like all Breitling watches, is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). Additional functions include split-time and fly back capabilities, as well as a second time zone display, a perpetual calendar, two alarms in buzzer and/or vibrate mode, a lap timer function and a countdown complete with alarm.
Nabil Abu Issa, Vice Chairman of Blue Salon Qatar, said: “The Cockpit B50 has everything for the aviation adventurer. Men in this region know luxury watches and Breitling offers an unparalleled combination of design, functionality and precision. The Cockpit B50 is a perfect example of their work – the design is sturdy and light in natural or black carbon-coated titanium, and flaunts a resolutely technical, powerful and masculine appearance.”
Breitling has also equipped the Cockpit B50 with innovative functions such as an electronic tachometer, a countdown/count-up system serving to switch directly from a countdown to a timing operation, as well as an aviation-style ‘chrono-flight’ device which can be used for recording flight times by memorizing departure and arrival times as well as the date. Another special feature is its use of UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, the aviation reference time) as the time base.
The new Cockpit B50 has an ultra-readable display allowing for superior ease of use – the two white-on-black liquid crystal (LCD) screens are equipped with a backlighting system that offers four levels of brightness and is activated by pressing in the crown or by tilting the wrist.
