Charles Russell Speechlys, a leading international law firm in the Gulf, has confirmed the appointment of Paula Boast (pictured) as a new Partner within its thriving Construction practice. Paula will build on the practice and offer expert advice across the sector, at a time where construction projects are gaining real momentum across the region. Paula will act on behalf of government and regulatory clients, project employers and developers, lenders and investors, contractors, subcontractors and consultants.

Charles Russell Speechlys has a growing construction presence in Qatar, in line with the significant growth of the sector, and Paula’s skills and expertise will be used to advise key clients including Manateq, the economic zones company in Qatar and Barwa Real Estate. According to a recent report by MEED, since Qatar’s appointment in 2010 to host the FIFA World Cup, around $100bn worth of projects have been developed. The report predicts that $135bn worth of construction contracts will be awarded in the next five years, highlighting the significant opportunities within this sector.

Paula has considerable experience as a Construction lawyer and has advised on a number of real estate and development projects in Bahrain and across the Middle East. Paula’s previous clients have included Bahrain Airport, King Abdullah Medical City and the Bahrain National Assembly, and she also assisted the Bahrain Ministry of Works in the drafting and publication of its Standard Suite of Construction Contracts in 2009. Paula is the Bahrain Country Coordinator for the Society of Construction Law (Gulf) having previously sat on the SCL Council in the UK. She is also currently the Vice Chair of Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF).
