Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi said the opening of Qatar School of Science and Technology for Boys yesterday is a qualitative step towards comprehensive development in the State of Qatar, by building great minds of the Qatari youth on a clear basis of applying Qatar National Vision 2030 in the education and training strategy and achieving the vision of the ministry which aims to provide sustainable, innovative and high-quality learning opportunities to the Qatari community.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the school and its promotion to knowledge-based economy. Al Hammadi said there is no doubt that the Ministry’s quest for a knowledge-based economy requires to building quality educational institutions, building students’ minds, developing their innovations, adopting their ideas and polishing them to the highest levels of quality and production.

During the inauguration of the school, he expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani for his support to the school and for following up on its implementation in all its phases till its inauguration at this outstanding level. The school carries the aspirations of outstanding Qatari students seeking scientific excellence and who are serious in achieving their academic ambitions, he said. The Minister of Education and Higher Education said is different than other schools as it targets talented Qatari students in the field of science who show a passion for technology, engineering and mathematics, to prepare them for this quality education and to continue to adopt this excellence for four years of hard work, through the implementation of a wide range of scientific activities, practical experiences and educational research, which were designed based on a modern basis.

He said the school provides a unique educational experience for Qatari students through its laboratories which contributes to constructing a strong scientific and research base in the secondary stage, which continues during university, comprehensively supporting distinguished students which will create a new Qatari generation that is able to globally compete with their research and projects. This is the right investment to build future generations armed with the skills of the 21st century, especially in the fields of science on which the economies of developed countries in our modern world rely on. He told the students of the first batch that the State of Qatar holds great hopes in them to achieve its status in the future, urging them to set an example for their colleagues and continue their work and ambition towards achieving the leadership that the country hopes for them, to become diligent leaders and to set a model in education and work.

The school aims to provide a high level of education based on the integration of scientific materials, and in line with the development of the education sector in developed countries, to graduate student batches with scientific basis that guarantees them to join the top universities in the world. It also aims to build a generation of scientists, researchers and inventors, to provide the Qatari labour market with rare scientific disciplines and to provide the country with educational outputs that possess the skills for a knowledge-based economy, thus benefiting the objectives of the Qatar National Vision.

Qatar has placed science, technology and innovation at the top of its national priorities and included them in its strategic plans and national vision goals, as well as adopting a five-pillar national research strategy that includes research, development, energy, environment, information technology and computing.
