Qatar's Ooredoo has become the main sponsor of Algeria's national handball federation. The agreement, signed in Algiers earlier this week, will see Ooredoo back the country's teams at various tournaments, including the 2015 world handball championships in Qatar.

"We are pleased to seal this partnership with Ooredoo, which remains unquestionably the largest sponsor of sport in Algeria," said Said Bouamra, the president of the Algeria Federation of Handball, referring in particular to Ooredoo's ongoing sponsorship of the Algerian national soccer federation.

"I am confident that our partnership will have a positive impact on the sport at both national level and at the international competitions in which we take part."

Ooredoo previously sponsored Algeria's national handball teams in 2010 and 2011, in its previous guise as Nedjma. Nedjma, a subsidiary of Ooredoo, was formally rebranded as Ooredoo Algeria in November. Ooredoo was itself rebranded in February last year. It was previously known as QTel.
