ORYX GTL, Qatar's pioneering ultra-clean fuels manufacturer, continues to demonstrate its commitment to local environmental causes by providing high level support for local World Environment Day (WED) celebrations.

WED is a global movement which promotes and celebrates positive environmental action around the world. It has been celebrated in Qatar for the last seven years under the auspices of Dr. Saif Ali Al-Hajari, Chairman - Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC), and in conjunction with IAID, a Performing Arts Academy in Qatar with a wide variety of activities across the country.

As a Diamond Sponsor of WED celebrations for the second consecutive year, ORYX GTL is investing in environmental awareness among people of all ages in Qatar.

The highlight of this year’s local celebrations - which ran from 17th May to 7th June - was a Painting Contest held under the theme ‘I love Planet Earth’, which attracted more than 3,000 participants from different schools, universities and the general public on 24 and 25 May. A creative way to raise awareness of ‘green’ issues, the contest yet again proved to be a highly effective way to reinforce corporate-community partnerships to share and promote common values and ensure a greener, safer and more prosperous future for Qatar and the world.

Ms. Katia Abboud Saba, A. PRC Manager at ORYX GTL Limited said: “The company is delighted to have partnered with IAID and the FEC for the 7th WED celebrations in Qatar. Our support for this event is part of ORYX GTL’s investment in thought leadership and collaborative approach to sustainable development, including teaching children about the importance of environmental care and how everyone has a role in its conservation in a fun and  creative way.”

As an evidence to show the strong commitment of ORYX GTL to spread awareness of this year's WED theme- THINK.EAT.SAVE, the company in collaboration with the WED Team facilitated Healthy Eating for A Healthy Planet Seminar for ORYX GTL's employees last 6th June at the Dolphin Energy  Building attended by executive management and staff.

“WED initiatives and activities are fully in line with ORYX GTL’s strategic objectives of sustainable development and environmental conservation, which in turn supports Qatar’s national vision 2030. As a proud partner with IAID and FEC, ORYX GTL sees WED as an effective platform to address environmental and sustainability issues for the benefit of future generations, which can only be achieved by reinforcing the message of environmental appreciation and conservation.”

Thanking ORYX GTL for supporting WED celebrations, Ms. Marianne Indrinal, Project Manager for WED in Qatar 2013 said: “In today’s world, where mankind’s footprint has greater consequences every day, it is imperative that everyone adopts a greener way of life to ensure a better, healthier future for all. We appreciate ORYX GTL’s unconditional and unwavering support for local WED celebrations over the last two years, and look forward to many more years of collaboration.
