Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and ORYX GTL's Chairman of Board of Directors, ORYX GTL held a spectacular event for all its employees and contractors at Qatar National Convention Center to celebrate achieving a Zero Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) for two consecutive years.

With the realization of its new benchmark, ORYX GTL - a pioneering gas-to-liquids fuel company - confirms its leading position as one of the world’s safest energy companies committed to the safety, high sustainability standards and environmental responsibility.

Speaking at the occasion, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada congratulated ORYX GTL for an outstanding world class achievement of approximately 16 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident, and the completion of two years with a Total Recordable Incident of Zero.

Dr. AL-Sada said “Safety is a valuable attribute and a core constituent of our business.It is also an organizational commitment that is aligned with the holistic vision pursued by the government under the wise leadership of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.”

“It was under the guidance of His Highness that the National Development Strategy stipulated that Qatar workers should feel safe and secure while in the workplace … and called for protecting employees from potential work-induced diseases, injury or death… and to better address the dangers associated with risky jobs.” Dr. Al-Sada added.

In his speech, the Minister of Energy and Industry said “Qatar’s commitment to the environment, health and safety of our society is also captured within the Qatar National Vision 2030, which encourages responsible economic development in a manner that protects its natural environment for future generations.

With this objective in mind, we must never become complacent when it comes to safety. We should always aim for higher standards to ensure the safety and security of not just our employees, but also that of all contractors, visitors, and the communities within which we live and operate.”

Dr. Al-Sada stressed that “when it comes to safety, the job is never done. Reaching a remarkable safety record, such as the one achieved by ORYX GTL, means that there are other challenges ahead which need to be met.”

Commenting on its ‘Beyond Zero Harm’ campaign, ORYX GTL’s CEO Mr. Abdulrahman Al Suwaidi said: “Having achieved Zero Harm benchmark for more than once now, ORYX GTL looks to go beyond that and to establish a culture of safety and security as an integral part of our way of life. This requires us to do our best to create such a culture in the minds of our employees, and to make them spread this culture outside work, in order to enjoy an accident-free society.”

ORYX GTL invests extensive hours in training, coaching and working with both employees and contractors to ensure safer working practices and working environments to help embed its safety culture and philosophy which states that “Safety is our way of life.” This is part of an organisation-wide, zero-compromise approach to safety. The Road to Zero Harm is a formal system integrated into every aspect of the business, helping define and use best practices to manage safety and health issues.

The Zero TRIR celebration featured several brain-storming contests on health and safety matters where winners were honored with valuable awards. The goal of these contests was to increase the awareness of the importance of those elements in our lives, and what we have to do to keep ourselves and our relatives safe.

It also featured an award ceremony where each of the contracting companies’ representatives were recognized by ORYX GTL CEO. The event also incorporated marvelous shows that dazzled the attendees in addition to lots of surprises where two lucky winners got business class tickets from Qatar Airways.
