More than 30,000 children and adults visited the Doha Zoo during the first three days of the Eid al Fitr holidays. Hundreds of animals inside the zoo are still attracting thousands of children and their parents to visit the place during evening hours.

Around 9,000 persons visited the zoo on the first day of Eid celebrations and 12,000 visitors were reported on the second day. The authorities counted 9,500 persons, including children, who spent their evening in the zoo on Thursday.

Not only children but people of all age could also be seen enjoying the company of animals, reptiles and colourful birds. The zoo administration had organised a variety of activities on the third day of Eid celebrations to entertain the children and their families who visited the place. Children also enjoyed the entertainment city set up on its premises participated in a number of competitions and events.

Hassan Mohanadi, head of the zoo administration, said: “We decided to offer free tickets to first 100 hundred children visiting the zoo. Marking the third day for families also attracted people in large numbers,” Mohanadi said. “Because of heat and humidity, the zoo is open between 3 pm and 11 pm,” he added. “The zoo was opened for the public on the first and second days of Eid, and it was opened only for families on the third day,” he said.

Mohanadi said children looked happy and all the visitors seemed satisfied with the arrangements made by the zoo administration for Eid holidays. “The Entertainment City, in particular, enthralled the children the most,” he said.

Moatassim, an Egyptian expat, said: “I bring my children to the zoo because it provides them a playing area equipped with toddler-friendly activities such as the climb-on toys with slides. Also, there is a soft carpet of sand covering the ground and protecting children from being injured. I think the zoo is one of the best attractions in Doha.” Essam, a youngster, said he loves to visit the zoo. “Whenever I come to the zoo, I enjoy the toy train. It gives tremendous pleasure in moving inside the park for five minutes on the toy train,” he said.

The Doha Zoo has a total surface area of 120,000 square metres, in addition to the 42 hectares of farmland and 70 hectares for the rest of the ground. There is a 10,000 square metres of car parking area.
