As part of their long running and fruitful partnership, Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar) has donated to Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) car safety seats which will be given to the families of babies born at Women’s Hospital.

Today at a special event held at Hamad Medical City, Oxy Qatar also handed over to HMC a 26-seater bus which will be available to transport patients requiring kidney dialysis from HMC to and from Al Khor Hospital. The new bus, which will be provided free of charge, means patients in Doha will be able to access the dialysis facilities at Al Khor.

The event included a press conference held at HMC Club House and was attended by Mr. Ali Al Khater, Executive Director of the Corporate Communications Department at HMC, Dr. Hassan Al Malki, Head of the Nephrology Department at HMC, and Ms. Haila Sweid Salim, Assistant Executive Director of Nursing Administration at HMC.  Mr. Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Qatar, Mr. Hassan Al Malki, Deputy General Manager at OXY Qatar, Ms. Naeema Al Hail, CSR Manager at OXY Qatar and Ms. Hana Al Asadi, Public Relations Manager at OXY Qatar.

The convertible car safety seats will be distributed to the families of babies born at Women’s Hospital in the coming months. Experts recommend that all infants and toddlers ride in a rear-facing car seat- preferably in the back seat – until they are at least two years of age.

The two donations - of the car seats and the bus - are part of a long running Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership between Oxy Qatar and HMC. Mr. Ali Al Khater, Executive Director of the Corporate Communications Department at HMC said the partnership between the Corporation and Oxy Qatar resulted in real benefits to patients and their families.

“We thank Oxy Qatar for their continued support of HMC and the community,” Mr. Al Khater said. “The bus will make a real difference to our patients undergoing kidney dialysis and will ensure they will have access to the safest, most effective care.

“HMC is also extremely happy to be involved in the distribution of child car seats to the families of babies born at Women’s Hospital with the help of Oxy Qatar. Not using a car seat can be extremely dangerous for babies and children. Statistics suggest that the best way to protect young passengers is to properly secure them in a car seat. By doing this, together we are helping to ensure that babies born at Women’s hospital are getting the best and safest start to their lives.”

Mr. Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Qatar said Oxy Qatar is pleased to provide the bus and child car seats.

“After extensive research on child car seat models, our CSR team recommended the convertible model because in addition to its high safety ratings, with features including lower latch connectors and five point harness,” he said. “Its flexibility allows conversion from rear-facing use for newborn children to forward facing for older children.

“This makes it a cost-effective, convenient and longer term solution for families. It is every parent’s responsibility to buckle up their kids, so drivers with little passengers on board, please remember to say “Seat Belts Please” before you start driving”.
