Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar) and Al-Noor Institute for the Blind have joined together in the launch of a new wheelchair bus.  The bus will be used by Al-Noor to transport students with special needs between the Institute and their homes.  Additionally, it will be available for student transportation during school visits and other field trips.

This contribution was made possible by an exclusive sponsorship agreement between Oxy Qatar and Al-Noor Institute for the Blind.  Since 2004, Oxy Qatar has been supporter of Al-Noor, and among other contributions, has provided the Institute with funding for educational resources and medical equipment.

The new wheelchair bus provided by Oxy Qatar, will allow Al-Noor Institute to expand their services to students previously not able to travel to Al-Noor on their own.  It will also enable Al-Noor to offer additional field trips and schools visits to the students, enhancing their educational experience and the availability of activity programs.

Stephen A. Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Qatar said, “Promoting capacity building and access to health services – particularly among youth with special needs – are key commitments of Oxy Qatar’s Social Responsibility Program. Al-Noor Institute exemplifies these commitments by offering quality care for visually impaired students, ages 3 to 21, and providing them with the resources to reach their full potential. We are particularly proud to support Al-Noor Institute for the Blind, which is helping Qatar achieve its objective of creating a world-class healthcare system, accessible to everyone.”

Dr. Hayat Nazar, Managing Director of Al-Noor Institute for the Blind, added, “Oxy thankfully has donated a new wheelchair bus.  We commend Oxy for its continuous support of the Institute and its program and activities which will assist in achieving the Al Noor Institute’s vision, mission and goals.
