The Pearl-Qatar, the flagship project of United Development Company (UDC) and one of the largest urban developments in Qatar, is planning to host workshops to enhance mental arithmetic skills for children, over the weekends of 16th - 17th and 23rd - 24th June 2011.

As part of United Development Company’s (UDC) Corporate Social Responsibility, the company partnered with The Skills Development Centre to introduce The OKOOL Mental Math Programme, which is open to both residents and visitors of The Pearl-Qatar. The programme uses unique teaching methods to teach children aged 6-14 essential mathematical skills. It focuses on teaching children to solve complicated mathematical calculations without the aid of any form of calculation devices, this in turn is believed to not only enhance mental and analytical skills, but contributes to the development of self confidence, as well.

A spokesperson for The Pearl-Qatar commented: “Qatar has invested heavily in education and the introduction of programmes like OKOOL contributes to the Qatar 2030 vision. We at The Pearl-Qatar are excited to be hosting an event that brings entertainment to education. OKOOL is a fantastic programme and we encourage all parents to take advantage of this unique opportunity by getting their children involved.”

The Skills Development Centre is approved by the Supreme Education Council of Qatar, and was launched with the concept of modern technology transfer, which has fast become a platform for knowledge exchange. The centre introduced a syllabus which is finely structured and prepared by Malaysian curriculum development, OKOOL. This curriculum provides children with arithmetic training by giving them the opportunity to rely solely on their mental processing skills. The programme is designed to stimulate both parts of the brain, which make the entire thinking process efficient and more effective.

The Programme will be organized in the form of small workshops, which will run in 20 minute sequences for groups of 15 children and will be conducted in both Arabic and English by OKOOL mental arithmetic specialists. A number of other fantastic entertainment activities are scheduled to run alongside the workshop.

Spokesperson for The Social Development Centre said: “OKOOL’s distinctive teaching method allows children to use skills they had not previously been aware of, while encouraging them to enhance their arithmetic learning abilities. The Pearl-Qatar has been the ideal place to launch these workshops, with its diverse audience mix.”

The Pearl-Qatar has recently hosted numerous unique events, such as, Hosh Arts Gallery, and The Vera Wang Charity Fashion Show amongst others.
