Earlier in May, Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) was awarded the Annual Qatarization Crystal Award for Supporting Student Scholarships by H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Chairman & Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum, during the Energy and Industry Sector's 13th Anniversary Annual Qatarization Review. Building on its innovative approach to Qatarization, QAPCO recently held a ceremony at its Doha headquarters to welcome the new scholarship students to the company.

As part of those scholarships, QAPCO will provide all the necessary resources to these promising young men and women for the duration of their undergraduate education, including tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance, textbooks and supplies, and international travel if required.  The Qatarization Section of the company will also provide continuous support through regular follow up and communication from a team of experienced Career Counselors.

Dr. Mohamed Yousef Al Mulla, QAPCO’s Vice Chairman & CEO stated: “We already have over 100 Scholarship students studying in Universities either in Qatar or abroad and will always demonstrate a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, especially in the field of education. We have invested significant time and efforts in developing the next generation of Engineers and Managers, to ensure a regular flow of talented and highly qualified new recruits that will be able to support QAPCO in achieving its future business goals and ambitions. This is especially important nowadays, with the inauguration last November of our LDPE 3 plant and our joint venture with QP to build a world-scale stream cracker petrochemical complex in Ras Laffan by 2018”.

Dr. Al Mulla also stated that QAPCO is committed to contributing to Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and believes that this Scholarship program supports Qatar’s quest for learning.  Building the modern State of Qatar through a Quality Nationalization initiative, working hand-in-hand with all educational establishments to enhance the knowledge and skills of Qatari Nationals is our goal.

Mr. Abdulla Ahmad Naji, QAPCO’s Learning & Development Manager, supported Dr. Al Mulla’s statement, describing the ceremony as “A great way to welcome our new students to the QAPCO Family”. Mr Naji continued: “I believe that the QAPCO Scholarship Program is one of the best in the region as it provides everything that the students require, including a long-term career path. I am convinced that some of those students, maybe even all of them, will become managers in the future.”

Mr. Naji also stated: “I can speak from personal experience about the benefits of QAPCO’s approach to developing their staff.  Since I joined the company in 2002, I have been encouraged to study both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in the UK. After working hard and achieving all my company performance targets, I have recently been promoted to my current managerial position. This was achieved with the support of Dr. Al Mulla, our VC & CEO, the Learning & Development Department and all the training specialists and professionals currently working in the company. I believe that if you study hard and perform to the best of your ability, there is really no limit to what you can achieve at QAPCO.”
