Qatar had a population of 2.28mn in August, a rise of 10.2% from the 2.07mn recorded in August 2014 and 8% from the 2.12mn in July this year, according to official figures, said Gulf Times. The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics has released the 20th edition of the ‘Qatar: Monthly Statistics’ bulletin, which includes data for a number of areas, including demographics, traffic violations, trade, travel and more. The number of traffic violations registered in August was 158,113, an increase of 38.6% over July this year (114,046) and 12.8% over August 2014 (140,114).

On the other hand, there was a 70% drop in the number of road deaths registered last month as compared to the corresponding figure for July, according to the bulletin. Six road deaths were recorded in August. The bulletin also highlights that 8,309 vehicles were registered in August compared to 7,729 in July, with a month-on-month change of 7.5%. Further, the bulletin shows that social security beneficiaries in August amounted to 12,112 citizens, an increase of 1% compared to July, when there were 11,993 beneficiaries. Visitors to Qatar increased by 6.4% in August vis-à-vis the same period in 2014. Visitors from other GCC countries made up 44.2% of the total.
