The Qatar 2015 24th Men’s Handball World Championship Organising Committee in association with The Ritz-Carlton, Doha and Qatar Red Crescent today began its month-long initiative to share Iftar meals with workers in Qatar.

Present at the event was Qatar 2015’s mascot Fahed, who helped to distribute the Iftar boxes and who will be present at Qatar 2015 activities throughout the Holy Month, striving to make handball one of the most popular sports in the region and encouraging a sense of national pride and sportsmanship. The programme involves volunteers from all three participating organisations coming together in the spirit of sharing, to enjoy Iftar with workers who are away from home and their families during Ramadan.

The initiative is part of a series of community events that have been lined up during this special time, and the response from people on the first day was extremely positive. The Iftar boxes are filled with healthy food options that have been carefully selected as part of Fahed’s mission is to promote a healthier lifestyle. Fahed is enthusiastically committed to spreading joy across Qatar during the Holy Month, reaching out to all sections of the community.

The first day of Ramadan saw the opening of a special Ramadan tent sponsored by Qatar 2015, on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton, Doha.  The tent features a range of fun games and activities, designed to encourage the community to become more engaged with sport, particularly handball. Many more activities have been lined up as part of a series of initiatives designed to celebrate the traditions of Qatar and the values of the Holy Month.
