Qatar Airways proudly congratulates Qatar’s national team for winning the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Qatar beat Japan 3-1 in a thrilling final match that took place on Friday 1 February 2019 at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in front of a TV audience of millions.

This marks an incredible milestone for Qatar’s national team, as it is the first time the team has ever won the AFC Asian Cup. The victory came on the back of an incredible run where the team won six games without conceding a single goal.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “This is a very proud moment for the State of Qatar. We could not be more proud of our national team for their inspiring performance throughout the tournament, despite much political pressure and an ill-judged campaign undertaken by the tournament’s host country, which is taking part in the illegal blockade against our country. Qatar’s national team, shrewdly managed by Félix Sánchez, has truly inspired all of us with their resilience, dignity and footballing skill.
