Qatar Airways has appointed Aitken Spence as the airline’s new General Sales Agent (GSA) for cargo operations, an agency handled for about 15 years by Delmege Forsyth and Company limited.

Vallibel One Plc, an investment holding company controlled by Dhammika Perera fully acquired the Lewis Brown Limited, the holding company of Delmege Forsythe, a company which dates back to the colonial era recently, in a mega deal worth of Rs.3.1 billion. Executive Deputy Chairman of Vallibel One Plc, Nimal Perera confirmed that the national airline of State of Qatar has moved away from Delmege due to some disagreement between the two parties.

“This had happened before Vallible One took over the company. Qatar Airways had made some allegations against the people who had managed the operations at the Delemege’s end. When we acquired the company, we rectified whatever that had gone wrong. We also wrote two letters to the airline, explaining that things have been rectified and therefore they can continue working with the company as in the past. But we didn’t get any favourable response for it,” Perera told Mirror Business.

Perera was reluctant to disclose the exact financial loss Delemge would incur, losing Qatar Airways local cargo operations. Aitken Spence currently holds the GSA status for Singapore and Kingfisher airlines for both passenger and cargo operations.
