Qatar District Cooling Company also known as Qatar Cool, a major district cooling company in the region, was announced the winner of the ‘System of the Year Award (SOYA)' during the International District Energy Association (IDEA) 105th Annual Conference and Trade Show 2014, held at the Washington State Convention Center - Seattle, from 8th – 11th June.

Qatar Cool received the SOYA Award for its district cooling services in The Pearl Qatar where Qatar Cool owns and operates ’The Integrated District Cooling Plant (IDCP)', which was inaugurated in 2010. IDCP is the world’s largest district cooling plant supplying 130,000 tons-cooling to the Island’s 45,000 residents. Besides the plant, a pipe distribution network with the length of approx. 90 km is used to convey the chilled water from the plant to about 125 energy transfer stations. The System consists of fifty two (52) centrifugal chillers arranged in 26 modules in series counter flow arrangement forming a 5000 Ton of Refrigeration train.

Qatar Cool provides district cooling to the 41 million square feet island, which consists of residential towers, beachfront villas and townhouses, shopping complexes, offices, schools and hotels. This is the second time Qatar Cool has received the prestigious SOYA Award from IDEA, with its plant in the West Bay area recognized in 2012.

Created in 1992, the IDEA SOYA Award is intended to recognize outstanding district energy systems which exemplify high levels of performance in providing energy service and which further the goals of the district energy industry. To win this award participants are judged on stringent criteria including System Energy Efficiency, Reliability and Availability, Environmental Benefits & Carbon Footprint, Employee Safety and Customer Relations, to name a few.
