Qatar defeated India 3-1 in the opening leg of their second-round tie in the 2012 London Olympic qualifiers on Sunday. In a keenly-contested match, India, who began as underdog, took a surprise lead through striker Jeje Lalpekhlua in the seventh minute.

Qatar had a chance to equalise four minutes later, when Abdulaziz Hatem won a penalty, but goalkeeper Laximikanth Kattimani denied captain Hassan Al Haidous's spot kick.

Ahmed Khalfan then equalised in the 14th, while Hassan and Mohammed Saleh Al Neil struck in the 54th and 69th to make it a convincing victory for the home side.
