Strath Burn, a representative of Qatar Racing Limited, won the Hackwood Stakes (Gr3) on Saturday at Newbury to secure his first group race title. Trained by Charles Hills, Strath Burn took the lead 200m from home and held on right to the line. He finished one length ahead of his nearest rival Godolphin's Portamento.

"He was very brave and got in a battle from two (furlongs) down. He stays six very well and it worked out nicely," winning jockey Jim Crowley said. "We got a lovely lead, but we were worried about the ground. He'll be a better horse with more juice in the ground," said Hills, the winning trainer of Strath Burn, adding: "It's great to get him on a nice, level track. There's a few nice races for him now - we'll have a look. Strath Burn could now be on his travels in pursuit of even greater riches. It would be nice to win a Group Two. I don't want to throw him straight into the deep end in a Group One and France could be an option for him."
