Qatar Rail today announced that it has become a full member of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), a globally recognized not for profit membership foundation bringing together organizations striving for sustainable excellence. The membership stands as a further testament to Qatar Rail's continuous efforts to strive for excellence in all aspects of its business.

Eng. Hamad Al Bishri, Qatar Rail Deputy CEO commented: "Becoming a member of the world renowned business excellence organization EFQM, means that we are able to utilize and benefit from what is one of the most widely used international performance models. Our membership provides us with invaluable benchmarking opportunities with likeminded organizations that deliver excellence as part of their strategic vision and operational deliverables to their stakeholders. Lastly, I would like to thank our CEO Dr. Eng. Saad Al Muhannadi for introducing us to this great initiative and leading us to make it happen.”

By utilizing the EFQM's comprehensive management framework, Qatar Rail will have the tools necessary to assist it in achieving and sustaining superior levels of performance that meet or exceed the expectations of all its stakeholders. This initiative has been driven by Qatar Rail’s Quality, Health & Safety, Environment, Security & Emergency (QSHESE) Department.

The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) was founded in 1989. It is committed to helping organizations drive performance improvement through the EFQM Excellence model, a comprehensive management framework used by over 30,000 organizations in Europe. Through its network of members comprising private and public organizations, EFQM applies its know-how and extracts outstanding approaches by engaging with executives and front-line managers.

Following its establishment in 2011, Qatar Rail is leading one of the largest rail projects in the world to meet the demands of Qatar’s dynamic and growing population. The company is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the entire rail network and systems, and will manage Qatar’s rail network once operating. The state-of-the-art railway network will consist of Doha Metro, a rapid transit system connecting communities within Doha and its suburbs, Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT), a tram service for convenient travel within the new city of Lusail and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Network, better linking Qatar to the region.

The first phase of the Doha Metro project is expected to be complete in 2020, while completion of the Lusail Tram is set for 2020.
