Qatar will participate in the meetings of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the year 2014 to take place on 7-9 July 2014 at United Nations Headquarters (pictured) in New York.

The delegation of the State of Qatar is headed by HE Dr. Saleh Bin Mohammed al-Nabit, Minister of Development Planning and Statistics. During the Annual Ministerial Review of the Economic and Social Council, HE Dr. Saleh will give a presentation on the achievements of the State of Qatar in the human development, sustainable development, and national well-being, according to the goals and aspirations of Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 and the objectives of the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2011 – 2016.

Qatar’s participation in the ECOSOC National Voluntary Presentations (NVP) comes after Qatar has a proven track record with regard to the Millennium Development Goals. Moreover, Qatar ranked 36 globally out of 187 countries in the 2012 United Nations Human Development Index, compared to rank  57 in 1997.

It is worth mentioning that the Annual Ministerial Review is an additional function of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) mandated by Heads of State and Government at the 2005 World Summit. The objective of the Ministerial Review is to assess progress made towards the Millennium Development Goals and the implementation of the other goals and targets agreed at the major UN conferences and summits over the past years, which, together, constitute the United Nations Development Agenda (UNDA).
