Qatar University (QU) participates in the 29th Doha International Book Fair, held from November 29 to December 8, 2018 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).

QU’s booth, which is operated during the duration of the book fair, is characterized this year by the launch of several books authored by faculty, staff and students. The booth this year also featured an array of cultural seminars, workshops and creative sessions. Kids were welcome at the booth where they enjoyed a customized entertainment corner and participated in competitions such as a photo contest and drawing activities. QU participates in this annual exhibition under the framework of strengthening its leadership role in society and its keenness to be a present figure in important events in the nation, be it conferences, exhibitions or relevant community events, particularly those that are cultural or intellectual in nature.

Mr. Nasser Rashid Al-Marri, Director of Communications & Public Affairs, says of QU’s presence at the fair, “We at Qatar University, are keen to be present at the fair every year, as it is one of the most prominent cultural events in the country. With these periodic participations, we seek to reflect the support and interest the university has in publishing new publications authored by our members in various scientific, literary, social and cultural disciplines. We have seen a significant increase in these publications recently, which we are very proud of, and they reflect the increase of scientific, intellectual and cultural mobility in our leading academic institution.”

He adds, “The QU booth offers a great opportunity to enhance communication with the local community and to introduce our scholars, intellectuals, writers and creators, who are a vital part of the educational landscape.”

The nine colleges of QU all had a role in the QU booth and presented to audiences in over 100 issues. QU’s Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) will also present a number of their studies. Through the booth the university plans to raise awareness of the services it offers to the community, within and outside the university, particularly its large and diverse network of electronic databases.
