Qatargas met with students at Qatar University’s College of Business and Economics as part of ‘Hayyakum’, a recruitment-oriented outreach program targeted specifically at Nationals which was launched earlier this year. The objective of the program is to meet with the students at their place of study and respond to their questions and queries concerning a specific discipline and assist them by providing them with valuable information to enable them to make the right decisions regarding the choice of career they may embark upon.
Qatargas has enhanced the ‘Hayyakum’ campaign to focus on specific skill sets – Finance in this case. The focus on a specific discipline will allow the students to have a clearer, in-depth understanding of the qualifications and skills required for jobs within that area and provide them with an insight into the roles and responsibilities undertaken within the discipline. Qatargas representatives delivered presentations on topics such as ‘investment’ and ‘financial market and institutions’ to both male and female students.
The ‘Hayyakum Finance’ initiative was launched at Qatar University by Qatargas Recruitment and Finance Departments in the form of an informative presentation followed by the opportunity to meet with either a finance expert or a recruitment representative of Qatargas.
Investing in the education and training of young Qataris is a key objective for Qatargas and is at the core of the Company’s corporate social responsibility strategies. Qatargas has well-established and proven strategies and programmes to attract, recruit and develop talented Nationals. One important initiative is the Company's Outreach Program which focuses on liaising with the Education Sector and includes reaching out to schools and universities, participating in career fair events and visiting schools. The Company is committed to supporting National Graduates and trainees with regular coaching and counseling.
Qatargas has a well-structured National Graduate Development Program that provides every graduate with an Individual Development Plan (IDP), consisting of on-the-job learning and formal training. Graduates will have the opportunity to develop their behavioral competencies, with focus on areas such as communication and information sharing, planning and organizing, teamwork, job knowledge and problem solving. Throughout the development phase, the Company’s Learning and Development department provides regular counselling support and career guidance to the graduates. Qatargas also organizes annual Qatarization Forum and CEO Forum where national graduates have the opportunity to meet each other and share their opinions and experiences.
The Finance Graduate Scheme normally lasts for two years during which, graduates rotate around various Finance teams in order to learn all about the Qatargas business. They spend 3 to 6 months in each team, gaining an excellent understanding of how the Finance Group supports the core business. A coach is allocated to each graduate for the duration of their training, who will serve as a constant point of reference and support throughout the graduate’s IDP. Once the graduate reaches the required competency level, he or she will be placed in an established, permanent role following a mutual discussion near the end of the two year IDP.
