Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has launched a month-long campaign titled ‘ Darbek Khadar’ , The campaign aims to raising awareness about cervical cancer, emphasizing the need for its early screening and encouraging women to go for Pap smear test, Through this campaign the women can do Pap smear test full free in Al Ahli hospital and Al Emadi hospital.

QCS launches cervical cancer 2 [qatarisbooming.com].jpgQCS will organize a closing ceremony on January 28 at Ritz Carlton Hotel for women who did Pap smear test and the prizes draw will be during the ceremony, The event also will include health educators to answer any questions. QCS is holding awareness lectures and workshops involving the country's diverse sectors to raise people's awareness of the symptoms of the disease, the factors responsible for it, as well as methods of prevention and cure. According to health educator Dana Mansour - Cervical Cancer is abnormal growth of the cervical cells. The cervix (is the lower part of uterus). Cervical cancer can affect any woman and especially between 20’s and 50’s , and one of  most common cancer in women worldwide.

 About Risk factors said ‘Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, Smoking, Recurrent cervical infections, Family history of cervical cancer, Having given birth to three or more children, Using birth control pills for a long time, Lack of screening. She explained the Early signs and symptoms saying ‘Abnormal vaginal bleeding, Abnormal vaginal discharge, Pelvic pain, Pain during intercourse, and we can Prevent it by Pap test, HPV test , HPV vaccine (starting from age of 15 years). , Stop smoking , Eat healthy , Be active. Cervical cancer often does not cause symptoms until it is advanced, so it is important to start the early detection tests regularly even when you feel healthy. Cervical cancer can be early detected by Pap test. she added.

She noted that The Pap test is a simple test can be done by your doctor; the best time to do the test is 10-14 days of the first day of the period   , and The test should be done  the first Pap test  After 3 years of marriage if the age is 21 years or above ,  After first Pap test until the age of 65 years: every 3 years , After the age of 65: stop if the last 3 Pap tests are normal. Mansour stressed that The official noted that cervical cancer often does not cause symptoms until it is advanced, so it is important to start the early detection tests regularly even when people feel healthy.
